my ipad got locked and disabled after the latest download from itunes...asked for a passcode which I did not oyt in yet...

If it is disabled from entering the wrong passcode too many times, you'll have to restore it to remove the passcode. If you are using iOS 7 with Find My iPhone enabled, you will have to force it into recovery mode in order to restore it, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.
