Mail stopped connecting to imap Gmail

Looks like many others are having same problem:

OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 and Apple Mail 7.1 (1827):

Yesterday, Mail stopped synching with my Gmail account. Get the error "Unable to Connect.....

There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “[name]@gmail.com” or try again.

The server returned the error: The server “imap.gmail.com” cannot be contacted on port 993.

I have verified password. I have used Network Utility to ping, lookup and portscan. No problems there. Good ping, etc.

This is really a pain. What else can I do?

Thanks, friend. Forgot to do that in my original post:

Google IMAP: Could not connect to this Google IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account prefernces. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of the Account preferences.

I've done that, tried repairing permissions, Accounts offline/online, all the other home remedies suggested on the forums. Nothing works.
