iTunes 11.1.4 doesn't "see" my iPhone 5s

I am running OSX 10.9.1 and iTunes 11.1.4.

When I connect my iphone to itunes it just says "iPhone" and has the spinning icon and it's all grayed out. Can't click at all. Sometimes it want me to update to 7.0.6 which I want. When I click update it just doesn't do anything but the spinning icon by my iphone stops. I can't delete iTunes because it says it's required for mavericks.

I dont know what to do.

Hello lineskier22,

I would be concerned as well if my iPhone was not recognized by iTunes. Thank you for providing all the information with the steps you took in regards to this issue. I recommend continuing with these steps:

Follow these steps to resolve your issue:

  1. Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for youriPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Install software updates on your Mac.
Note: If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.http://apple.com/itunes/download
  3. Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer'sspecifications.
  4. Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
  5. Restart your Mac.

Additional Information

In rare circumstances, your device may be recognized after reinstalling iTunes, but after you restart your Mac, the device may not be recognized again. If this happens and you're using Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, please follow these steps.

This seems to have fixed the issue: on your desktop, hold down the [OPT] key and click on "Go" in the menu bar; holding down the [OPT] click on Library, find Preferences, and then delete all the files that start with "com.apple.itunes.XXXX.plist" where the "XXX" is whatever other things may exist - as long as they end in "plist". From my experience, preference files are rebuilt by the system after the next restart, so you have very little worry of losing any important data; the worst that could happen )and NOT in this instance, but for other plist files) is that you may have to reset the application "preferences" again when you next start it up, to act or appear in a "preferred" customized way for you.

Once you delete the .plist files, empty the Trash, and either log out or restart the computer. Once you're back up and operational, start iTunes and your iDevices should reappear in the sidebar (if that's open) and/or at the top of the screen (if that view is enabled).

Hope that helps. It definitely fixed my problem!

Originally, when I plugged my iphone 5 into my MacBook Pro, nothing happened. Itunes did not launch and my phone would not charge. After I followed your instructions, I plugged my iphone in and it would charge, but itunes would not launch.

Looking at your reply to angelea2602, I am going to delete all itunes plist files (I originally only deleted the files that ended in plist.)
