email doesn't delete from server after downloading to client

When I delete my email on my mail client (Version 10.6 (1085) the email message remains on the Xfinity Server and it also means I have to delete it from my iPhone. Am I missing a setting?

Desired Outcome: If I delete an email on my Mail Client then I would expect it to disappear from the Xfinity Server and my iPhone (it doesn't). If I delete the email on my iPhone I'd expect it would disappear from the Xfinity Server and my email client (it doesn't).

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6), Version 10.6.8

Try going to Mail preferences/accounts, mailbox behaviors, try checking store deleted messages on the server, permentally delete messages when::select when quitting Mail, or one day.

If you have the account set up as an IMAP account, it is functioning normally. If it is a POP account, go to Mail/Preferences/Accounts - select the account/Advanced, and select delete from server.

Ok, I actually changed one setting to delete it immediately and that worked. So now that it dispappears from the Xfinity server, whay doesn't it disappear from my iPhone? Shouldn;t it remove it there? Is there another setting somewhere?

If it had already downloaded the e-mail, it won't delete it from the iPhone.
