Where is the 6.1.6 update for iPhone 4S

Apple has released an update for iOS 7 to fix the SSL Security issue; plus an update to iOS 6 for iPhone 3GS for the same issue (iOS version 6.1.6)...But what about the people who have an iPhone 4S, and still on iOS6? They seem to have missed out on the update!

And no, I don't want to "upgrade" to iOS 7. I prefer to stick with something that works. Is this Apple's way of trying to force users to update their devices to iOS7: Leaving them vulnerable to a serious security flaw, or upgrade?

Hello there, Welcome to the Apple Support Communites! I'm sorry but, iOS 6.1.6 is only signed for devices not supported by iOS 7. Fortunately or unfortunately (however you would like it) the iPhone 4S supports iOS 7 and is allowed to install it. iOS 6.1.6 is for devices not supported by iOS 7, while iOS 7.0.6 is for devices supported for iOS 7. I am afraid that if you want the security hole fixed, you'll have to upgrade to iOS 7. Reply to me if you have more questions.

Hello! I see you're new here so.. Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Listen. iOS 7 is just a VISUAL OVERHAUL of iOS 6. Yup. You heard me. Only the interface changed because PEOPLE have BEEN ASKING APPLE to CHANGE the interface because it's getting "boring". Don't like being forced? You can't help it. It's a strategy to reduce fragmentation. We are getting the benefit of 6.1.6 through 7.0.6. If you don't want to upgrade to iOS 7, fine, but, let me clarify that i'm using an iPhone 4S with iOS 7 installed, as my daily driver. And i've proven that battery life is still the same, the slow animations are adjusted because of iOS 7.1 and iOS is just as snappy as it was with iOS 6.

Actually, no. Updating to ios 7 will cost me productivity as always happens with update; also having read of numerous issues and having worked through ios6 issues on my 4s, would like to skip that.

Also, updates often include planned obsolescence for current device. Updates are configured for most current devices; one reason your system gets sluggish over time is the incompabitility of updates with an older device.

Apparently the only recourse is to appeal to the good people at Apple and the FCC (or whichever govt oversight agency applies), with copies to high-visibility social media sites such as LifeHacker, Twitter, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

Cheers,

C.
