Q: MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Install DVD keeps 'crashing'

My MBP keeps crashing.

Tried several hints given on this community, e.g. Cmd+R, C and D on start-up. But 'it' gives me the same answer every time.

Even tried start-up with a Snow Leopard DVD, this one gave me 'Cannot boot from this disc'

Please help this 'new guy'

Within the Mac OS X Installer I'm asked to select the disk where I want to install Mac OS X.

The only option is the partition on the harddrive.

If selected it gives me "Mac OS X cannot start up from this disk"

    Sorry,

    same problem as described before.

    1. screen to select language
    2. "To set up the installation of Snow Leopard, click Continue"
    3. license agreement
    4. Select the disk => Partition of HD
    5. "Mac OS X cannot start up from this disk"

The picture however is a picture of a harddisk, but with a yellow triangle and an exclamationmark!

When you are done partitioning, you must have:

    GUID partition table

    Mac OS Extended (journaled) Volume

These are the defaults, but if the drive was never used before, it may have a different partition table.

Those were and are the settings.

Both DVD's verified and "appear to be OK"

I do see an other disk1; "Mac OS X Base System" with an 'Apple Partition Map'

That is the system (from the DVD) you are running from, and to be installed.

I suggest you not go down the Install path, but instead specify the language, then Choose Disk Utility from a menu, and select the drive by Hardware_name and ERASE the entire Drive. Then use PARTITION again. This time be sure to choose a NEW 1 partion from the Menu (do not rely on "as currently partitioned").

    When completed, try Install again.
