do i have to be on same network

i do not see the purpose of having home sharing if you can not truly share videos from one apple device to another. i have 6 apple devices between ipads and iphones but in order to use home sharing you have to be on same network.

i would like to be able to watch one of my videos in a hotel room on my ipad, but no you cant without downloading it from home on you home network.

i want to be able from my iPhones or iPads with cell service or another network watch video from my collection.
