Is my phone still susceptible if I have ios 6? I have an iphone 4 and dont want to update to ios7

my i phone 3g has intermittened lose of service. ithen corrects itself for half a day the signal ios6 appears then a connect to itunes with a connectorn othing works
i have held both switches as discribed in one advice recommendation .Nothing any suggestions ?
