Q: mid 2012 macbook pro(with retina) non responsive

checking my email this a.m. and my mac froze. completely. mouse wouldn't move and I couldn't shut it off. I finally shut down my wifi and waited a few minutes and I was able to shut my mac down and reboot. any ideas on what could have caused this? I'm running Version 10.9.1.

    Mail can become unresponsive sometimes.

You can Force Quit Mail under those circumstances.

    Force Quit

Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time.   Wait.

When Force Quit window appears, select Mail, if not already.

Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.

    Wait.

    Mail will quit.

    Forced Shut Down

Press the Power button for 7 seconds or more.

    Mac will shut down.

    Restart the computer.
