Not enough space?

I have a 255GB external SSD conected through Thunderbolt to my MacBook Pro with the intention of running Windows 7 on it.
I know that Bootcamp cannot target hard drives other than the disk which has been booted on so I have Mavericks installed on the SSD so I can Bootcamp in there.

My problem is that Bootcamp keeps telling me "The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned." and that I must have a minimum of 28GB despite still having 243GB free acording to Disk Utility. (Mavericks being the only thing on the disk.)

Any help is muchly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
