My daughter turned the brightness on her phone all the way down and I can't see anything to go to settings and fix it. I tried going into our pitch dark no window bathroom and still can't see anything. Is there a way to fix this?

I had the same thing happen just now. It can happen if you have auto brightness on and turn brightness to 0. The key is that Auto brightness is on. The sensor for auto brightness is on the front of the phone next to the ear speaker. Shine a bright light into the sensor (flashlight from another phone works great). The screen will light right up and you can adjust the brightness. You're welcome 🙂

I accidentally turned the brightness all the way down. There was nothing wrong with my phone. I did a hard reboot but no help. By accident I got Siri. She turned the brightness back up.
That answer was perfect! thanks. I said, "hey Siri, turn light back up on my i phone" and she did it immediately. I clearly have a lot to learn about Siri.

I discovered that this phone (for whatever reason) goes into black screen at about 25% brightness setting.
I agree there is probably a bigger issue with the screen or phone ... but this is how I was able to "rescue" it for my daughter....
We have the 30pin to HDMI connector and I used it to mirror the phone onto the TV. Then I navigated to the brightness setting using the TV display as a guide.

Even with the brightness turned down all the way, the screen is not completely black. There may be something else wrong. Try resetting the phone by pressing and holding the Home and power buttons until the silver apple appears.

Try to use the above picture to find the brightness setting on Control Center if she has iOS 7 and Control Center enabled. Swipe up on the home screen (or lockscreen) to access it. Or restore with iTunes.
Thanks for trying to help. The apple does come on when I turn off and restart but then it's just black. Anything else that could be going on??? My daughter said she turned it down all the way because the bright lights bother the bus driver and he doesn't want them using phones when they are bright.

Thank you!! I was having this same problem but was able to find the brightness setting using your picture; I enlarged it on my iPad to the same size as my phone and was able to slide my fingeracross it based on the image. Thank you for the help!! X
I just tried. It is not possible to turn down the brightness to the point where you can't read the screen. So there is something else wrong with the phone.
