    Go to the site that will be hosting the video and find out what video formats they accept.  Chances are H.264 will work, but it's always best to know before starting.

    Also, if you are posting to YouTube and/or Vimeo (or similar) sites, they will re-encode your material to fit their playback system.

     

    The advice in this case is to push out the least compressed file that meets their upload limits (which still may well be H,264 if you have a slow uplink or a long file)

    720p using H.264 with a data rate of 5,000kbps is a good compromise.

     

    It gives perceived quality almost as good as 1080p with small file sizes and will play well on HDTVs via media or BD players as well as computers and iPads etc.
