Can't access Time Machine settings when AirPort (WiFi) is on.

Problem:

My iMac (2.66 MHz Inter Core Duo) with 10.5.8 needs an upgrade to Maverick...it is connected to my home network with AirPort

I have a NAS on my home network (Verbatim MediaShare 2TB) wired connected, which I have had working as a drive for TM-backups. It stopped working with TM about 1,5 year ago, did never figure out why, backups just failed.

Now I want to get it going again for a fresh backup prior to the OS upgrade.

The issue I am facing now is that I cant access the settings for the backup drive in TM settings as the AirPort is on.

I need AirPort on to be able to mount the drive of the NAS, but then I cant access TM-settings. If I switch of AirPort temporarly to access TM-settings the drive which I need to select is dismounted.

I am kind of stuck. Why is this happening?

Hi Johahn,

Did you mean 2.66 MHz Inter Core 2 Duo?

I think what is happeng is maybe Set Service Order...

10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

For yours, whichever one is on top, I'd drag to second place.

Hi BDAqua, Ethernet is not used, IP for AirPort is 10.0.0.2, Router is 10.0.0.1, NAS is 10.0.0.5,

SM 255.255.255.0

All are static IP

This night i did a test by moving the iMac so it could be wire connected to the switchport of the router (thus using Eternet, IP still 10.0.0.2 for iMac).

It behaved the same as with AirPort:

Ethernet active = No access to TM "select disc"

Ethernet inactive = TM "select disc" opens as it should.

Very odd behavior....

iMac sees the NAS over WiFi/AirPort.

This is the normal setup:

Netgear FVG318 (With WiFi and built in switch) 10.0.0.1

iMac AirPort IP 10.0.0.2

NAS (Verbatim MediaShare) wired to FVG318 Switch 10.0.0.5

All above are set with static IP-configurations.

Of coarse ther are other IP-elements on the network, iPhones, iPads, PC laptops, AppleTV, etc. They have all dynamic IP:s

I don't think IP conectivity is the problem, since the NAS Volume for backup "COMPUTERSBACKUP$" can be mounetd as it should when AirPort is on.

The problem is for sure whitin the iMac, where something is conflicting with TM.

Hi, label explains the problem pretty much...

That is: The dialog in TM where the disk for TM to put backuped data is not accessable when the iMac has connection to my home network. The button is there, but when i press it notheing happends. If i deactivate the network interface, the dialog opens.

I hope this claryfy my problem.
