Using iWeb & GarageBand to change Podcast RSS tags after posted on iTunes

I've created my podcast in GarageBand, and it's posted on iTunes. Now, I want to change the title of the podcast, the name of the artist (currently listed as unknown), and the category. I've found the tech specs at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html, and I made the changes in the rss.xml document that I found on my iDisk, but I've read on these boards that the next time I publish my podcast page from iWeb, that iWeb will write over all the changes I made. Is there some way to hack into iWeb to find the xml code there and change it on my hard drive as well? Thanks!

I can partially help you. You don't need to hack into iWeb to change the title of your podcast series or the name of the artist. iWeb takes the title of your main podcast page - the one that shows your last 5 or so episodes with their summaries - as your series title. At least it did on mine.

To change the series artist, click on the Inspector button on the bottom of your iWeb window. Choose the RSS tab, and then choose the Podcast tab. There you can add your name and your email address.

As for the category, there doesn't seem to be any place to add that information within iWeb which is strange. Maybe somebody else can help you with that. I don't think that has hurt me however. I believe I only had to supply that information when I submitted my podcast to iTunes.

I read your post and it helped me as well. I have another question for you if you don't mind. I also created my first podcast using garageband and iweb, I now need to change the artwork. I was able to change the artwork in iweb and republish it, however I have no idea on how to change it in the itunes store.

I have been pulling my hair out for the last 2 nights. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi !

I’ll try to help you with that but it may be a bit difficult because you’ll have to follow some of my instructions and actually I’m French so my English is sometimes bad…

First, you’ll have to backup your “domain” file. This file is where iWeb stores every information about the website you’ve created.
To backup this file, go in hour HD (on your computer) in USER/YOUR NAME/LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/IWEB
Here you’ll find a file called “Domain”. Simply copy it on your desktop or where ever you want.

So if, in the future, something turns wrong with iWeb, you’ll simply have to bring this file back in your USER/YOUR NAME/LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/IWEB and your iWeb will be exactly the same as now.
(You can use this to backup iWeb everytime you apply changes, it could be usefull!)

Well! We can now begin to look in your iDisk. Open your “rss.xml” file with TextEdit. Find the line called <Image>. This line shows witch image file is used as your RSS feed artwork. Remember (or copy it in a text box) this file name witch must be something like “0,0,300,30080d4b884 ac55e61ce68aba3.jpg” (in my case).
Now you can close the “rss.xml” file without saving any change (you don’t have to change anything on this “rss.xml”, just remember the image file’s name).

Once “rss.xml” file is closed, go back on your HD at USER/YOUR NAME/LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/IWEB to find the “Domain” file.
At this step, we will apply changes in this “Domain” file so be sure you’ve backed it up! In order to open this “Domain” file, right click on it and choose “show package contents”. It’ll open a new window and you’ll see what is in this package. Here, you must be able to find an image file called exactly the same as the one we saw on your iDisk (something like “0,0,300,30080d4b884 ac55e61ce68aba3.jpg”).
Sometimes, this file is not a “.jpg” file. It depend on witch kind of file you chooses when you imported your podcast artwork at the first time. Anyway it must have the exact same name but can be a “.tiff” or a “.gif”…
So now you just have to replace this file by your new artwork but be careful, the new artwork file better have the same extension as the old one (if the old one was a “.jpg”, then the new one better be a “.jpg” too)
Be careful that the new artwork file you just putted in have still the same name as the old one (“0,0,300,30080d4b884 ac55e61ce68aba3.jpg” for example).

Then you can close every window. Open your iWeb and publish your website on your dotmac. Your new podcast artwork must be online!
