how to fix error -50

Hi, I can´t copy or save documents because I ´m keep gettin an error called -50.

Does anybody knows how to solve it?

Are you trying to copy to or from an external drive or network volume?

Hi Linc, thanks for replying,

Well I wuold say both, when I copy a file inside the external hard drive or if

I try to copy a file from the external to mu mac drive.

Could not find a solution in Google for Error -50

Mmmm not at the moment. I tend to work through the external drive so I don´t slow my mac.

Can I do a back up now? Do I have to reboot my drive?

I don't know. The drive is malfunctioning (or the internal drive is.) If you want to preserve the data, you must try to back up immediately. You may lose some files.

I'm not certain, but more likely it's from the external.

Yes.

So when I do that, how can I fix the error -50?

I would start by repairing the external drive in Disk Utility. If you have any problems with it after that, it should be retired. You might be able to salvage the drive mechanism by installing it in another enclosure.
