Changing the radio channel on Airport Express used to extend an Airport network?

Hi,

I'm using a Time Capsule as my primary wifi base station and an Airport Express to extend the network. The two devices are connected by WiFi.

My problem is that the 5GHz network of the Airport Express is using channel 100 and the reception just 5 meters away from it is everythign but great. According to Apple WiFI diagnostics I should use on of the low intensity channel like e.g. 36, 40.

My problem is that I dont know how to change the channel. Using Aiport Utilities there is no option to select the radio channe in the options for the wireless network. Is this not possible at all?

What model is the TC?

If you are extending the TC by wireless then the channel must be set on the TC not the Express.

Go to the wireless tab of the airport utility and select wireless options. Channels are there.

But if you have the new AC model the channel will not change for 5ghz.. you will not be able to adjust it even if you change the numbers..

You really should use 2.4ghz for areas where signal is bad.. it is still much better than 5ghz.

I have the new Airport Express and given your answer I now understand that I can not change it. I have another WiFi network close by that's using the same channel and I guess my problem is that they two are interfering. Why the **** did they made it unchangeable?

About the 2.4 vs. 5 ghz: I actually use both in one network. I guess the client decides if it wants to use 5 or 2.4

I also thought 5 ghz would be the way to go if the signal is bad but the access point is close by.
