Q: My mac just displays the apple symbol and timer circle on start up

My mac just displays the apple symbol and timer circle on start up, then just stays like that! Any ideas peeps?

    restart the computer and old the cmd key and r ky together until the repair sceen pops up.then click on disk utility and click on the main drive and click erase then go back and click reinstall os.

     

    by the way this will erase everything so make sure the computer is backed up to icloud

    Before erasing and reinstalling the OS, try Repair Disk in Disk Utility.

     

    What version of Mac OS X? If it is OS 10.6.8 or earlier, you will need the system disk to repair the drive.
