i have trouble with Face Time on a 2012 macbook air.

When i put my password in for face time a message keeps coming up saying the server encounted an error in processing registration. please try again later. Do I have to purchase face time from app store ?

As I understand it, FaceTime is an integral part of the Operating System. It will not work on my late 2010 Macbook Air, now running Mavericks. Neither would it work previously on Lion and then Mountain Lion. It just won't accept either of my two Apple identities and passwords, yet my iMac and iPhone readily accepts them!

Thank you for your suggestion, MD1234567. I have tried to delete the applecamera.plugin but I can't delete it. When I try to change permissions I am told: You don't hve permission to change the application for this document only. Do you want to change all similar documents to open with the application 'Terminal'?"

I've clicked "Cancel".

I note that on the iMac on which Facetime works well, the "applecamera.plugin" file is present. So what's to be gained by deleting it even if I could delete it?
