Q: Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.

Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Well if that is the truth, we know the solution. Get rid of it.

Here you go, updated AirParrot to the latest version and tried to use AirPlay mirroring. Got this message:

    Solution: Uninstall AirParrot.

Thank you, casein2006!!!  I too had previously installed AirParrot - but had desinstalled it (or thought I had).  Lost ability to airplay video (only audio worked) from my mac to apple tv shortly after upgrading to ios 10.9.2.  Spent hours with various apple support folks culminating in reloading the os - nothing fixed it.  Removing the pieces of AirParrot detailed in the link you provided finally fixed it - can mirror video and audio again with airplay.

I knew it! The media doesn't know what they're talking about and tried to put the blame on Apple. It's rediculous! Don't trust the news. They're full of crap.

Have tried this and still the problem persists across any user account (exsisting or new).

I checked for any of the "AIr Parrot" file but none of them are on my system.

Someone mentioned a com.apple.Airplay.plist file but I had a look and that is not in its relative folder.

I am at a loss.  Does anyone have any suggestions???

Had another conversation with Apple Support today. They had me reinstall OS X, which worked to fix the AirPlay problem. However, the reinstall reverted me to version 10.9.1 instead of 10.9.2. Once I upgraded to 10.9.2 again, the AirPlay problem returned, so I'm still at a loss.

I used to have AirParrot on my computer, but uninstalled it a while ago. I tried uninstalling the files mentioned on page 3 of this thread, but that hasn't helped at all. Not sure what to do next.

Actually, I just happened to try the AirParrot uninstaller located here:

I thought I had uninstalled AirParrot long ago, but apparently there were still some residual files and settings leftover. I ran the uninstaller and now AirPlay is working just fine on my iMac with 10.9.2.

Hopefully this will work for the rest of you!

I can confirm that AirParrot even after zapping it with AppZapper, leaves a small file APExtFramebuffer

and it resides at: System/Library/Extensions and even removing this manually didn't work.

This file and maybe some others, have been there since before Mavericks and has only become a problem on the 10.9.2 update.

A removal tool for ALL AIRPARROT FILES, exists here, http://support.airsquirrels.com/article.php?id=8

    Airplay up and running now.

Although it seems you found the solution, personally I prefer Airparrot to duplicate the iMac screen to TV. Which are the major differences between both applications? Is it worthy to risk something that is working great?

I've removed all AirParrot files and rebooted multiple times.

I am still not able to select my mirroring options, and the screen on my Apple TV stays black.

    What now?

Have you tried the steps I posted above?

    Which steps?

I removed all of AirParrot, but I'm hoping to not have to re-install the entire OS. People have done that and still had the problem.

    What else is there?

    2. Look in the /Library/Launch Agents and /Library/Launch Daemons folders.

    3. Look in /Library/Startup Items as well. There may not be anything in here, which is perfectly normal.

    4. Create a folder on your desktop that corresponds to each of these folders. For example, I create an LA, LD, and SI folder on my desktop.

    5. Move the contents of the folders to the corresponding folders created on your desktop.

    6. Open System Preferences > Users and Groups ("Accounts" on older systems)

    7. Remove all third party login items by clicking on them, then the minus sign.

    8. Restart the computer and test to see if the issue persists.

Aren't I going to lose all of the item that I need to be login items? How will I even be able to put them back? Things like FontExplorerXAutoload, and AirPort Base Station Agent, etc.
