Problems after updating my iPad to 7.0.6

Ever since I updated my iPad to 7.0.6 it often freezes or completely turns itself off. I have checked in Settings and the feature to turn off after a period of time is not allowed. To get the iPad to turn on again I have to reboot. Also while in my email program I am getting a message saying "Cannot get mail." Yet, I am getting emails just fine. Does anyone know a "fix" for these problems?
