Feb 27, 2014 2:09 PM in response to timw321by ibnn,Hi timw321,
success! Your call for patience is correct. Your tip worked for me.
Thank you.
I tried your sequence of application testing now.
Tidbits:
1. Starting Skype first time, opening video preferences brought green LED back. Yet the video stayed black.
2. Stopped Skype and restarted. The same habit.
3. Stopped Skype and started Facetime. Facetime's green LED glows AND(!) video.
4. Stopped Facetime and started Skype, openend video preferences. LED glows and video is visible now.
5. Stopped Skype and started Messages, preferences were open from last test, green LED glows AND(!) video.
6. Stopped Messages and started PhotoBooth, green LED glows, video works
What a weird path to healing. :-)
Would like to understand these partial steps to success.

Cannot commit that Airparrot uninstall helped.

Still no camera for Facetime, Messages, Quicktime. :-/
Interesting sideeffect: VDCAssistant does not crash and/or run high in Console log.
Had no AirDisplay.
More ideas welcome.

Removing Airparrot and Airplay did not do the trick for me. I spoke by phone to apple support, since Isight work only on safe mode, they suggested to partionned the hardrive and install on that new partition 10.9.2...and that did not work also. The only way to go back to 10.9.1 is if you have a backup with time machine and that not the case for me. So I have to wait for a fix...
Hi guys, lemme probe a bit further: Are your affected Macs capable of AirPlay Mirroring? (See About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X for a list of supported models.) I'm wondering if this perhaps even affects Apple's own virtual display drivers.

Feb 27, 2014 2:18 PM in response to Licabettusby William Dentzer,I experienced similar camera problems after 10.9.2 upgrade with Cinema Display built-in camera not seen by Messages, Facetime etc apps.
Just now opened and upgraded Skype to latest Version 6.14 (351). Not sure if updating or just opening Skype did the trick but camera now functioning properly.
Hope this helps...

Feb 27, 2014 2:25 PM in response to ibnnby timw321,i think there is a cache which needs rebuilding and it doesn't always get rebuilt. I *think* launching Skype starts it off, but it takes a long time. Photobooth and Facetime don't start it, though. So first launch of Skype got it started but it didn't finish until we'd moved onto trying the next spp.
In my case, I'd tried a few things like copying binaries from working systems and removing things without using a proper uninstaller. The intention of the terminal command I showed was to get the caches to rebuild but TBH, I don't know if it would work - it should be harmless though, so I gave it a go.

Feb 27, 2014 4:03 PM in response to timw321by john slavin1,Lauching Skype did it for me too. I hadn't used Skype for quite a while and didn't even have it on this computer. I downloaded a fresh new version, logged in and then launched the skype preferences-->audio/video. It immediately saw the iSight camera. Then I went over to the Facetime app, which I had inadvertently left running. It was still showing no camera connected. I quit Factime and relaunched the Facetime App. I immediately recognized the iSight Camera.
Good catch guys! Thanks a bunch. Now I wonder if Air Display will work if I reinstall it. I think I'll wait a bit on that though.

Feb 27, 2014 4:17 PM in response to john slavin1by elliotay,This sounds similar to other issues Apple has caused with OS X updates previously. This happened with the release of 10.7. The problem ended up happening to only certain models of Macs that had virtual display drivers installed.
Those of you seeing this issue, what model Mac do you have? Specifically, what video card does your Mac have?

Feb 27, 2014 5:57 PM in response to Licabettusby Joe Borzellino,Removing AirParrot drivers worked for me. I needed to remove the drivers in /Library/Extensions as well as the ones in /System/Library/Extensions as indicated in the support FAQ for removing AirParrot.
The machine I have is a Mac Pro 4,1 (2009) with an Apple 27" LED Cinema Display as well as a generic 24" display. Graphics card is Nvidia GT120

Feb 27, 2014 7:29 PM in response to Licabettusby rkr20853,AirParrot was the culprit for me too (MBP 4,1). THe grachics card is the NVidia GeoForce 8600M GT 512 MB .
Had to go into /System/Library/Extensions and ?Library/Extensions to remove the AirparrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext but once I did that, Skype, Facetime and Photobooth are all running again. That also explains why my MacMini wasn't having the issue with 10.9.2 as I never installed AirParrot on that machine.
Thanks all for the great sleuthing!!

Feb 28, 2014 11:35 AM in response to Licabettusby wlgspotter,I stumbled upon this post when trying to search for a solution to the problem I'm facing with my MacbookPro 4,1 (early 2008), similar to what many of you posted here.
I, too, upgraded from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2 only a couple of days ago, and noticed my system seemed to be getting very sluggish. A look at the Activity Monitor showed my COU going through the roof, with process called CrashReporter hogging it most of the time. I then looked into Console, and found a process called VDCAssistant going through a constant loop. It complained about something to do with display drivers.
I then stumbled upon this thread, and whilst I don't have Air Display or AirParrot installed, I do have Air Server installed. I uninstalled it and rebooted. I've also made sure that my Skype doesn't start upon login
Since then I no longer get the CrashReporter hogging my CPU, and the VDCAssistant errors hasn't showed up in Console. However, my FaceTime is still reporting no camera, and when I launch Skype, the VDCAssistant errors appeared again.
At the moment I am happy as my CPU doesn't go through the roof, and the hard disk doesn't get filled up with the VDCAssistant log errors, but it would be nice go try and fix my camera issues too. Does anyone has any suggestions? BTW, prior to uninstalling Air Server I've tried an SMC Reset and also repaired disk permissions but it didn't help.
Thanks everyone.
