Overlapping places in iPhoto

Contemplating upgrading OS X Lion to OS X Mavericks to take advantage of iPhoto 9.5.1.

Ever since it's no longer been possible to adjust the radius of a new place -- it can only be modified in Manage My Places -- I've experienced problems when a new place accidentally overlaps an existing one. iPhoto reassigns photos belonging to the overlapped place to the new one.

Does anybody know whether the problem still persists in iPhoto 9.5.1? Are there any problems migrating the existing iPhoto Library to iPhoto 9.5.1, e.g., do photos get reassigned to other places?
