How do I transfer music NOT purchased on iTunes to my macbook?

I have recently purchased a new Macbook Pro with retina display but I am unable to figure out how to transfer music that was NOT purchased on itunes from my old Dell laptop to it. I am signed into itunes on my macbook but only the music i have purchased on itunes shows up. I have about 600 songs not purchased from itunes & would hate to lose all them. Please help!

If they are MP3, AIFF or AAC files, in iTunes, just do File > Add to Library, navigate to the drive the songs are on, select the songs and import them.

Just check your iTunes Preferences > General > Import Settings first to make sure you will be encoding the imported songs the way you want them to be encoded.
