Powerpoint won't open

I have a Macbook pro from 2009. I currently have Mac OS X on 10.5.8 on it. I have microsoft office, but powerpoint won't open now. It brings up the message "Microsoft Powerpoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

Can anyone help me fix this issue?
