try right-clicking on the track and drifting the
cursor down over top of "Show in Playlist"
(underneath "Add to playlist") if your song is in a
playlist or lists, a side pop will show you what
playlists it is in.
(if it's not in a playlist, you won't see the "Show
in Playlist" option.)
if you then want to add it to a playlist, drift your
cursor up over "Add to playlist" and select the
playlist from the side pop you see there.
(using that technique, you'll be able to do most of
the work from inside your main library.)
Thanks, I was not aware of that functionality.
I also found that if I create a dynamic "helper" playlist, I can add a filter that uses "Not in Playlist XXXX". I set the transfer to the iPod to not include that helper playlist. For example, if I want to create a playlist called "Relaxation", then I use a helper playlist "Relaxation Helper" where the filer criteria is: Song "is in Libary" and "is not in playlist Relaxation". When I am managing my Relaxation playlist, I use the helper playlist as the source to drag/drop songs into the Relaxation playlist. The helper playlist updates automatically and thus I can easily figure out which songs I have not added. It's a bit more visual than the solution above. Of course, ideally, iTunes should have this sort of filtering capability without having to use a workaround.
