What happens when a rental is interrupted, and selecting 'check for rentals' in setup doesn't do anything?

With about 10 minutes left in my rental, I paused to change my laundry. When I came back it had returned me to the main menu. Everything tells me to go to settings and select 'check for rentals'. When I do this, I get a never ending spinner. My internet connection is fine. I won't have another time in the 24 hour window to watch this, super frustrating.
