My Ethernet connection flickers on and off but WiFi continues without interruption. I am on Mavericks with latest updates and I am connect to Verizon FIOS. I have swapped routers to remove that variable. This problem has started recently and occurs both on an IMac and a MacMini.
Try going to System Preferences/Network - select the Ethernet, click Assist Me and run diagnostics.
Do you have another Ethernet cable you can try?

Thanks for your response. However, the suggestions were not helpfull.
As I noted this problem occurs on multiple machines and cabling has been ruled out. Moreover, the diagnostics meerly point to what I have already attempted.
I am no Mavericks guru, but I would like to hear from someone who has more knowledge of the operating system internals. I have tried three different browsers, swapped routers, changed cables and have pretty much ruled out hardware. What is baffling is that wireless works without a kickup.
Ethernet connection is lost but WiFi continues with Mavericks.
