I have a corrupted library on my ext. HD that I want to replace with the back up, but even though I dragged the icon to the trash, it won't let me get rid of it. Says it's in use, though NOTHING is open!

Launch the Terminal app in /Utilities/, type lsof, followed by a space, in the window that pops up, drag the ext HD icon into the window, and click the return key. Copy the results and post them here.

But I don't want ALL of the contenst of he ext HD erased. Will that do that? I just want the iphoto library gone..
Log out or restart and try again.
That command only lists what files are open. LSOF=List Open Files. Nothing will be deleted. Linc's suggestion would probably work.
