I'm using OS X 10.6.8 on an iMac. Is this version of OS X - and other pre-Mavericks versions, too - affected by the bug that's affected Mavericks? if so, is Apple issuing fixes for these earlier versions of OS X? If Apple isn't fixing the earlier versions of OS X, how do we protect ourselves?

Bug was ONLY in Mavericks and iOS 6 & 7.
So Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard, Tiger, Panther, ... are not affected.

Apple also released a security update for Lion and Mountain Lion on the same day.
