I recently purchased and set-up a new iPad Air and love it. However, even though the set-up setting seem to indicate that I should be receiving SMS text messages from non-Apple devices, I am not.
What settings on my iPad do I need to change in order to receive SMS text messages from non-Apple phones and devices?

The iPad cannot receive SMS messages since it is not a phone.

The set up for iMessages allows the iPad to send to and receive messages from other iOS devices. Since the iPad is not a phone it cannot send and receive the regular cellular text messages known as SMS messages or the photo messages known as MMS. There may be some apps though that provide a work around. Search the App Store for texting.
I Know this is old, but I am having this same issue with my iPad Air 2. Since I have cell service on my iPad I'm unsure why I shouldn't be able to send SMS.
