iTunes 11.1.5 crashes on launch

I´ve just installed the new iTunes update 11.1.5, a version that says to fix earlier crashes. I have not had any problems with 11.1.4 as apparently many others, but updated anyway, in good faith as usually... Now my iTunes crashes. The program starts, but within a second or two it crashes. I have a Macbook Pro late 2013 with OSX 10.9.2. Intresting is that I have also a Mac Mini that was updated aswell, and that one works perfectly. Same software versions.

Anyone else experiencing the same problem, or have any tips on how to fix this?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Thanks for your inputs! Apreciate it. Didn´t help me though, my iTunes crashes instantly with or without Internet connection. I disabled the store settings, but it didn´t help. Can´t get to the iTunes settings since the program crashes rigth away. Some users has written that iTunes works when logged in as Guest, and that works for me to, but it doesn´t really help me...

Did a Time-machine restore (a backup copy made before both the latest Mavericks and oTunes updates), but, the problem remains...

Thanks again. Could create a new library, but when I click Done same thing happens as before.

I get a crash report but I´m not skilled to understand what it means. The "Thread 0" seems to be crashing though...

Well I'm not skilled either… I think it has to do with Graphics, considering the number of CoreGraphics Calls and a little google search for libRIP.A.dylib.

I just deleted iTunes (as describe here: http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/) and reinstalled itunes 11.1.14 (download from here: https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/iTunes11/031-0757.20140122.Res0j/iTunes11.1.4. dmg) and now it runs without problems as before. Maybe it will help you too.

Thanks again. Really helpul to understand how to uninstall iTunes. Did what you did, and still the problem remains... I don´t get it.

I also did the following:

- Uninstall iTunes

- Deleted all plist-files and itunes-folders i Library-folder

- Emptied trash, rebooted in safemode, ran disk utility/repair disk rights, rebooted again.

- Added a iTunes-folder manually i Music.

- Installed iTunes 11.1.4, rebooted.

- Started iTunes. And crash again...

- Network connection was off...

Ok, I´m actually running iTunes now... What did the trick? Uninstall iBooks...

I read a few threads about others who had problems with iTunes turning out to be iBooks Library problems, so I removed the program and the databases/libraries. Rebooted, and Yes, iTunes is actually running.

Such a logical solution Nicolas D.M. Thanks a lot for helping out!

Thanks for the advice. I uninstalled iBooks and that made iTunes work. But, as I was trying to make iBooks work too, I reinstalled it from a backup I had and it crashed iTunes again...

So I ended up looking for the location of the iBooks library and deleted all the files that were there. The library is located in

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books

Afterwards I opened iBooks, and the files I deleted were still showing in the library. I tried to open one of this deleted book files, an error message appeared, and now all the iBooks library is clean, aaand iTunes is working again.

Nicolas D.M.:s about uninstalling iTunes ABSOLUTELY works for uninstalling iBooks. Change the rights, drag it to trash and it's gone. As a matter of fact, I've had this problem with iBooks since the 11.1.4 udpate -- it crashed at launch every time I attempted to open it, so it was just this dead app. Thankfully, most of my e-book purchases are on a Kindle.

Performed this iTunes 11.1.5 update and the app started behaving just like iBooks after the 11.1.4 update, crashing at launch again and again. Multiple restarts, safe mode, all to no avail. Then I followed your suggestion to remove iBooks and voila -- problem solved. I can't thank Apple for this disasterous update and certainly their iBooks app left a lot to be desired, even when it was functional, so I'll just go ahead and thank you. My day just improved significantly. Thanks again!
