Error Message: "The SMTP server “smtp.gmail.com” rejected the password for user “frankthoms3” I do know my password and can't receive email when I use Apple ID to reset password.

Question: I receive the error message: "The SMTP server 'smtp.gmail.com' rejected the password for user 'frankthoms3'". I sign in with Apple ID and then it sends me an email, but I cannot receive it because I do have a password! Help!

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)
