How much does it cost to get just the aluminum back of the screen replaced?

So, my Air managed to fall in the one part of my room that doesn't have carpetting, and it also managed to fall squarely on the upper righthand corner of the screen. It bent over a little like a dog's ear, and it bothers me like crazy because I just bought the laptop a few months ago and it's intended to last me for a solid few years. I'm willing to lay down a couple hundred just to get it repaired, but some investigating has told me that it's much more for a simple screen repair ($600-$800 range). The screen itself isn't damaged at all--in fact, the ding in the corner isn't so bad, either, but I got that stake through my chest when it happened and I want to know if there's a cost-effective way of repairing it. All that would need replacing is the aluminum back, I think.

Has anyone had any experience with this? It's probably not under AppleCare, is it? Would there be a way to subsidize a replacement?

I appreciate the help.

there is no repair on such things, I can assure you, its all replacement

nobody does alloy chassis metalwork.

Yes, it would cost more, a simple replacement.

accidents are not covered by Applecare no. Youd need a portable device insurance from your local insurer for such things (such as Inland marine insurance)

but I got that stake through my chest when it happened

Im sure that was the case.

No, the bezel is glued on, and tearing down a display assy. just to replace the alloy LCD chassis backing is, lets call it "very involved indeed"

No, there is no "on the cheap" in that instance.

I used to fix notebooks, there was no sarcasm meant. 😊

They days of 'fixing' laptops ended long long ago its all

1. remove bad

2. toss bad

3. install new.

The part you dented, the alloy chassis of the LCD display is the most frustrating and 'impossible' to consider replacing on its own.

replace the monitor assembly, very easy, the alloy chassis of same, extremely HARD.

anything else is very simple by comparison.
