Is it safe to buy an used iphone?

I bought an used iphone 5 from ebay. I'm afraid they might set up tracking data or password on the iphone. Is this possible or an unreasonable paranoia?

Be sure they have done all that's required or you could be buying a paper weight or a stolen phone.

Anything is possible if the device is jailbroken. Otherwise, as long as they have been restored as new you should not have any problems.
