i have final cut pro 7.03
Do I need to purchase the full $299 final cut X, or is there an upgrade to X at no cost or cheaper cost. I already use 7.03.

No upgrade path from FCP 7.0.3.
FCP-X is a completely new application - it only shares the FCP name.
