I need to save as rich text format for school but dont know how. I tried exporting it but i do not see rtf as an option. The only options are PDF, word, plain text, ePub, and pages 09.

Apple removed it from Pages 5, along with a hundred other things.
Use either Pages '09, TextEdit, LibreOffice or Bean.

I would agree with Peter's recommendations, particularly of TextEdit, since that basically works in RTF and avoids the use of features that wouldn't survive the export.
Pages does "export" RTF to the clipboard, which can then be pasted into TextEdit to save it, but that is a lot more trouble than just working in TextEdit to begin with.
