Is there a way I can restore my notes that have disappeared from my phone

Recently I noticed my notes were in duplicate on my phone. I was going thru them and deleting the ones I didn't need. After I finished I went back to check and it seems that several of my important notes had disappered. Is there anyway I can retrieve my notes from a back up? I'm not real sure if I've backed up on iTunes or iCloud. Any help with this would be much appreciated....I need these notes if there is any way possible to retrive them.
