Feb 27, 2014 12:13 PM in response to iarmby stefanrandomly,Hi Iarm,
you could try opening the iPod case and using isopropyl alcohol to clean out all the parts inside your iPod, especially those which have visible marks of corrosion.
Here is a link to iFixit's information on dealing with water damage, an extremely useful bit of info: http://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Electronics_Water_Damage
And when you want to open your iPod to give it a clean, use one of their teardown guides: http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original (You have to find it by clicking on your device model)
Please note that your even after doing all the above things, your iPod still might not work properly. Try plugging it into its charger and seeing if it turns on. If it does when plugged and unplugged, the iPod will probably work like before the accident. If it only turns on while plugged in and not when unplugged, you probaby have a battery failure. Replacing the battery will most probably solve the issue. If it doesn't turn on at all, you probably have a larger problem. More on that is written in the above linked article.
Good Luck,
Stefan
