iPhone 5 not powering off

I have an iPhone 5, when attempting to power my device down it will either simply lock the screen after holding lock button. Or it wil simply have no change, I know there was a defective lock button issue. Is that the issue or is there something else causing this and how can I power my device down?

Thank you,

Sg

If your Sleep/Wake button is not working, you'll have to get the phone replaced...Apple does not fix hardware issues like this, they replace the phone. In the meantime, you can use assistive touch to power the phone off:

Once Assistive Touch is turned on:

Tap the dark circle to open the Assistive Touch menu, then tap "Device" and tap and hold the Lock Screen icon. This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider.

To power the phone back on, plug it into a power source.
