You will need the Snow Leopard Disc to Format and Clean Install Os x Snow Leopard on your Mac, Go through the below link for the process step by step.

If you have your Mac running right now check your Current Os x version and if it is Snow Leopard (10.6) or older then you might have received a Disc along with your Mac.
Click on Apple Logo (on top left hand side of the display) > About this Mac

Feb 27, 2014 7:05 AM in response to miguelloby Sumesh_22,Also you can try one more thing if you do not have Snow Leopard disc and your Mac is Working now, if your Macbook meets the Mavericks requirement then you can download and Install Mavericks on your Mac and once Mavericks is Installed you can see if your issue is fixed and if not then you can Format and Reinstall Mavericks without a Disc through its Recovery HD which will get created on your Mac when you update to Mavericks.
