apple supporting mac 10.6 with the new security patch?

I have heard that Apple will no longer support Mac's below the 10.7 version for this error they neglected to repair in a secirity breach. Is this true? I own 2 excellent machines and I find it hard to believe that they would leave us exposed like this with no resource. Is this true? Thanks, ERIK

Glad to read you are a Snow Leopard fan 😀 but you may have misunderstood some of the recent information abiout Snow L. It is true that Snow Leopard is no longer 'officially' supported but not true it has been abandoned. Snow leopard is still supported for all security matters (you would have been advised via software update had a patch been offered) and iTunes and App store remains supported (there was a new update today).

Snow Leopard is still an important entry point for upgrades to the Lion Family and Mavericks but these newer OSs have an entirely different operating system to SL. More, the computer world is fast moving and as the percentage of SL users drops, so to will the value of keeping it supported at whatever that costs.

All the same, Snow Leopard is highly regarded and your machines will continue to work just as well, possibly for some years to come. But when support does cease, you will have to be just a touch more careful where you browse.

To state the case precisely, Apple did not "announce" dropping of support. MacWorld is presuming that to be the case based on the lack of a security update release for 10.6 at the same time as updates for Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks were issued. It's not an unreasonable assumption to make since the last security update for 10.6 was released last Sepember, though looking at the security update details it's not clear that any would apply to 10.6, but it's not been officially announced, so future updates are not impossible. Unlikely, but not impossible.
