USB Wireless Remote

i have just bought a USB wireless presentation remote for my 2013 macbook pro retina. i plugged it in and the buttons on it activate random things, like the 'B' key as well and shift. i havent had any luck changings the buttons around, anybody know how i can change it so it works like the apple wireless remote?
