Try Andrei Cerbu's post here or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.

... okay ... in that case try re-enabling the Firewall via Norton. (If the iTunes installer is trying to update the Windows firewall rule, and Norton is telling the firewall it shouldn't be doing anything, that could conceivably produce a hang during an install.

Mar 2, 2014 12:00 PM in response to Ed Janisonby turingtest2,Perhaps you only disabled these items as an attempted workaround to getting iTunes to install, but try again with both AV and firewall enabled. I've seen circumstances when connectivity fails due to a disabled firewall, and it is unlikely that the iTunes installer can configure the service if it isn't running.

Mar 2, 2014 1:11 PM in response to b noirby Ed Janison,ok, reenabled firewall and AV.
Did a standalone install of Apple Application Support.
When I ran the setup program as an admin, it did a few things (too fast for me to see) and hung on STATUS with a gray bar so no progress was made in that part of the install.

Mar 3, 2014 3:29 AM in response to VAZER10by shortcuts,Yet another **** up of an update from itunes!!!!
Did the update and now itunes does NOTHING!
Open itunes. Go to File > add folder and it just hangs then freezes. Have to close itunes using Task Manager as it fails to respond. The last update was a total nonsense and now the same. Getting REALLY fed up with this.
I did as I should when installing the update. Restarted PC when asked etc. What a balls up!

Mar 3, 2014 11:23 AM in response to VAZER10by b noir,11.1.5.5: troubleshooting freeze/hang when both attaching a device and going "Edit > preferences"
Here's the basic symptom set of "mystic syndrome":
When I open Itunes it works fine, but it becomes completely unresponsive (doesn't crash, just stuck and does not responds) when I either connect my device (which is recognised by my PC W7 62bit) or when I try to go into preference via the edit tab (same results)
I just updated my itunes to 11.1.5.5 everything was working before the update. After the update, itunes will freeze if I click edit, preferences, or if I connect my ipod touch. I am running Windows 7 64 bit
Despite initial appearances, it's not a preference file issue ... some basic principles troubleshooting showed it's systemwide rather than user-account-specific. I've helped fix two of them with a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related components, following the instructions from the following troubleshooting document:
For the case studies, see:
Itunes becomes unresponsive when connecting iphone/going into preference

Mar 4, 2014 12:38 PM in response to VAZER10by triprectifier,iTunes was fine this morning. Got the update notification and ran it as I always do. Now all I've got all day is a white screen that won't load. Blank, Nothing!! I'm so irritated!!! I've uninstalled and re-installed every way possible, multiple times. What a waste of my time!!! Guess I'm going back to WMP. ...Apple, so sick of these clowns!!

Mar 4, 2014 4:41 PM in response to triprectifierby HRPuffnstuff2013,Man I feel for you guys who tried to update and then it went awry. I'm going to sit tight on my older version and be happy that it works.

Mar 8, 2014 1:36 PM in response to turingtest2by Ed Janison,I got it to work. First I had to uninstall all the components that DID install according to the instructions in some of the posts (I forget the names of the KB articles) and shut off my AV and firewall, that seemed to do the trick.
Thanks,
Also, does anyone know if Apple engineers actually read these complaints? Apple people, you need to fix these issues as it is really p--sing people off!

Apr 21, 2014 6:09 PM in response to VAZER10by Stryker9475,So this morning my trash was working fine. Got sick of that issue where the "Other" category takes up like 1.5GB on the phone. Google said that restoring it and then restoring a backup would fix it. Clicked restore and an option for "restore/update" came up. Clicked it. Now I have iTunes 11.1.5 and NOTHING WORKS. My laptop beeps, acknowledging that I plug it in, but iTunes tells me to **** myself. Tried pretty much everything. Phone is sitting here in recovery mode begging to be smashed. Anyone come across a fix for this?
