how to transfer playlists from ipod nano classic to itunes?

this is making me craaaaazy. just got a new windows 8.1 computer. i can get itunes, but it won't sync my ipod. my computer is 64-bit. ipod seems to have 32 bit driver. is this important? I could forget it and re-rate and redo all my playlists, but this seems absurd. it won't work on my little windows 7 netbook either. This ***** big-time. earlier versions of itunes worked on the netbook. but not the latest. can anyone help?
