Missing Mail

I just upgraded to Maverick and discovered all the mail in the Hold mailbox is gone, everything else seems ok. Can this mail be recovered? I don't have Tme Machine so any ideas will be appreciated.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
