I can't update my ipod 4th generation to iOS 6.1.6

Hey guys,

I have an iPod 4G that currently has an iOS of 5.1.1

I tried a few times to update it to iOS 6.1.6 but whenever I do I get the error message:

"Software Update Failed; An error occured downloading iOS 6.1.6."

When i try on iTunes, I get to about a quarter of the way howver an error message pops up saying:

"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod the network connections timed out."

Does anyone know why the update is not working?

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 5.1.1

- Try via wifi when connected to another network

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall abd then update via iTunes.

- Next try the manual install method of:

iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

- Then try on another computer

I tried disabling my anti virus and firewall, it worked for awhile and then something happened and it couldn't update. iTunes also said that my ipod was in recovery mode. When I tried again, it said my iPod was in recovery mode so i had to restore it. After awhile I recieved the iPod error message 21, twice. I restarted my computer and tried again. it seemed to be working but then i got the iPod error message 9, and now my iPod is stuck on the screen with the apple and a blank loading bar beneath it. I have tried changing USB ports and restarting my computer again but it still doesn't work.

Check for hardware issues

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.

Configure your security software

Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.

Try on another computer.

Last

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Thank you for your help but what really worked was waiting for my iPod to run out of battery then restart the restore process. It worked and managed to uodate to iOS 6.1.6.
