my mac system is not getting restart / shutdown and logout
MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), gggg
Check this, go to system preferences, users/groups. Hight you account in the left column, click on Login Options.
See if Display login window is set to list of users and that Show the sleep, restart, and shut down buttons is checked.
