14gb in 2009 Mac Pro quad

Been reading various posts on memory configurations but still a little confused.

I have a 2009 quad mac pro, 10.9.2.

I just replaced the 3x2gb apple supplied dimms with 3X4gb dimms from crucial. Giving 12gb.

Now I have 3x2gb dimms in the drawer.

Anyone put one of the extra 2gb dimms to give 14gb in slot 4 and how did it behave?

I don't have high memory requirements but just don't like to see it going to waste as it were.

Thanks.
