My ipod nano 6th generation will not appear in iTunes 11 on my Windows 8 PC. Suggestions?

I receive an error message indicating that the iPod cannot be recognized by iTunes. The iPod does appear in My Computer. I have gone through all of the trouble shooting steps without success. I just updated iTunes today and this seems to be the cause.

Still no luck with this. I have tried these steps to no avail. I've gone through every step of the trouble shooting process. The error message states:

"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, the install iTunes again".

Obviously these were the first steps I tried.

I feel like it is a compatibility issues between the 6th gen Nano and iTunes 11.1.5.5

Alright, I managed to fix this issue.

First, I used my computer to "format" the iPod. It was completely wiped and reset to factory defaults. I then ejected it.

After that, I completely uninstalled every Apple application on my PC. The only program I could not uninstall was iCloud.

I then restarted my computer and downloaded the latest version of iTunes.

Once iTunes was loaded, I plugged in my iPod and it was recognized.

There must have been some kind of conflict with the old software and the iPod. Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

Thanks for the help b Noir.

I also had this issue and was informed by multiple sources that it had to do with Windows. This must not have actually been the case because when I just updated to the new Itunes 12, suddenly my nano is recognized once again by Itunes. This suggests to me that all along, the problem was with Itunes 11/subsequent 11 updates....With 12, all is well (except for the new red icon). I hope anyone else with this problem is now successful in getting their nano to be recognized with the latest update!
