My macbook pro was stolen. 2013. It was never recovered. I just recently purchased a new macbook pro. 2014. I was hoping all my pictures would still be in iphoto, after opening up my iphoto on my new mac.....it is empty. I see nothing.??? Will I not be able to get them all back?....did iphoto not keep them??...Hopefully someone is able to suggest something for me.....thank-you.

I'm not sure why you would expect iPhoto on a brand new machine to have the photos from your stolen machine. There is no mechanism for that to happen, I'm afraid. Do you have a back up from the old machine?

No - iPhoto does not save your photos to your new system - you must restore the iPhoto librtary form the latest backup you have from just before your computer was stolen - that is one of the reasons you always have a good, current backup - bad things happen - and a good, current backup is your only protection against them
